Capstone Project

Niki is a graduating senior at the University of Michigan. She is a Psychology major, with a minor in Writing. She is currently applying to New York graduate schools to get her dual degree in Elementary Education and Special Education.

 

Niki has dreamt of becoming a K-6 teacher her entire life. Actually, she originally dreamt of going into the entertainment industry. However, her "Spice Girl- esque" Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Denig, showed her that she could be both an entertainer and a teacher at the same time. Ms. Denig inspired her through music, art, imagination, dance, play, and wonder...while continuing to be the most awesome, fun, and energetic teacher. Thus, Niki grew up and realized that she, too, could inspire the youngest generation, just as she had been inspired by Ms. Denig.

 

Niki is excited for this next chapter in her life. But before she dives into graduate school, she will stay in Ann Arbor until May and continue to teach at the Towsley Children's House, the on-campus nursery school. In fact, it's the wildly enthusiastic Towsley children that inspired her to create this children's book for her Capstone Project. The children play, learn, and discover all day, completely away from technology- why can't this practice continue on at home?
